Identification of micro-organisms by sequencing

For the identification of a micro-organism, one isolated colony is needed. After extraction, the DNA of a target gene is amplified and sequenced. The obtained DNA sequence is than compared with reference sequences available through public databases like SILVA or RDP.

The chosen target genes are those commonly used for phylogeny and taxonomic classification, namely the 16S rDNA gene for bacterias and the ITS1-ITS2 region for yeasts and molds.
This technology  provides a  fast, accurate and reliable answer in various applications like:

  • identification of the source of a contamination,
  • confirmation of the presence of a microorganism,
  • insurance of an optimum quality control,
  • etc.
